my name is Rowan

i love mommy's legs

daddy's lips

and grandma's shoulder

my cousin got the cuteness too

you can't teach that
don't waste your money on cute school

happy birthday

my grandma turned 90 last week
she looks better than most super models at 20

you can't teach cuteness like this

you just can't
they either have it or they don't

but respect them

i work with a wide range of people
some as younge as 19, 20, 21
some as old as 60+ i'd imagine

the thing i've realized most in this past year
is that no matter the age
some people are always the same

if you let your mind think logically
you could conclude that the older someone gets
the more responsible and truthful they become
you would think that all those years of experience and trial/error
would teach them responsibility and honesty and character

the reality is
this isn't always true
some people just don't change

so you have to be on the alert
you can't let their age throw you off
you have to pay more attention and listen to what they mean
not what they're saying
cause they've learned what to say
but they still mean the same thing
they just know how to point the fingers now
beware - some people never change

the abode

this is where we live
a single wide trailer stuck on the side of a beautiful barn
across the driveway from a beautiful old house
sitting on several acres
tucked back in our own world
but not too far away from some good civilization
close to a dunkin doughnuts (run by unfriendly indian people)
close to an acme (run by high school kids)
close to marsh creek (we went there more before we lived here)
close enough to four red boxes
walking distance from delicious carmine's italian food
we have washing/drying in the glowing downstairs windows
random cars/trucks/trailers/junk a plenty
a landlord who owns a great restaurant
and makes wine with his friends on saturday/sunday mornings
very early
very loud
kids who mistake our home for a monster truck rally grounds
a daughter who has only smiled at us once
granted we've only seen her 10 times ever
we have a closet the size of a small room
where about 90% of our possessions are crammed in
honestly, most of it is my crap (guitars, amps, camera gear, pedals, bags, etc...)
we have a quaint porch with porch furniture that we need to get out of the barn
oh yeah, we store the other 10% of our possessions in the barn
it's probably more like 60/40
we bought most every piece of furniture from craigslist
which was originally purchased from ikea
which was originally made in europe (or china probably)
we have a 70's blue kitchen
and a 70's green bathroom
when i say blue or green
i mean everylast thing in there is blue or green
they did not cut corners with the painting back then
we have animals that live above our bedroom in the ceiling
they exercize every morning while we're trying to sleep
we have noisy exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathroom
we have yellowish hardwood floors
and a giant mirror in our kitchen
come over some time
we can play phase 10 or catchphrase

foster, if you figured out how to use the computer yet

this is for you
me and aunt lala drove by them the other day and thought you'd enjoy this
love you buddy

lauren thinks this is a cadillac

one of the entertaining things about living here
is the plethora of old/vintage cars that are always showing up
some stay longer than others
but they all are welcome company in comparison
to the yellow rider struck that sits out there

i like pillows

these two have become quite the movie buffs
they also get along great with our nephews
they don't mind the drool or getting down and dirty
playing on the floor
they're actually quite fond of each other too

202's hidden treasures

i passed this place today on my way home
sits right on 202
but somehow it feels so removed from that crappy road
and you really feel like you're in the "country"
on a rolling hill
on a farm

imagine ending your day by driving down this gravel road

and driving up to this modest house
and this awesome view of sunrises and sunsets

and a corn field to play in
and miles of traffic to navigate through
anytime you wanted to go anywhere
kinda seems like a good trade

episode two

sneak attack
you didn't see us coming

saturdays

when the sun is out
everyone smiles

Saturday, April 4, 2009

yes, i cleaned the lens first

and apparently from all my recent pictures
i've discovered i have dirt on my censor
awesome

power jumpers

sometimes it seems appropriate to go over the top
this seemed like the right time

turn pike

major roads
traffic
weather conditions
forgot my camera
all reasons why it's taken me a couple months to take this shot
i love this barn for some reason
i pass it everyday going to work
and one of these reasons seems to keep me from taking its picture every day
yesterday it happened
we jumped in the car
after the weather conditions passed
when there was little traffic and much time
i remembered my camera
i know this doesn't do it justice
but i still like it

favorite new invention

well, my luck, it's probably not new
but i just found out about it
and i've been dreaming about this invention
and making my own make shift
keep-the-coffee-from-spilling-out-of-my-cup-while-i'm-driving things
i usually roll up a napkin and shove it in there
of drape something over the top of my coffee
but the other day i saw it
glorious and green
slender and perfectly shaped
i collect them now

glass

i wonder how many birds die a year
by running into glass
not knowing it was glass
but thinking it was what was on the other side?

favorite

the fun lauren and i have
i thought it might be fun to dress like her
tights and all
