Scout Pack 101
there must be a steve henricks who's interested in boy scouts...or has a son in boy scouts...or volunteers in boy scouts...or something. at least the 4th time i've gotten an e-mail like this.
"Hi Parents!
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you again for stopping by our Cub Scout booth on Tuesday or Thursday of last week. Martin Harris and I really enjoyed meeting you and your family and look forward to having your son(s) join our Pack!
As a reminder, Join Scout Night is this Tuesday, August 30th, 6:30 PM in the Broadmoor Elementary Gymnasium. The meeting will last a little more than 1 hour and we have a water rocket event planned for the kids (brothers and sisters are more than welcome to watch also) while we meet with you. It will be a fun night for all and we look forward to your participation!
Our next Pack meeting will be Wednesday, September 7th, 6:30 PM in the Broadmoor Elementary Gymnasium. The first 25 minutes will be dedicated to kicking off our Popcorn sales drive (our most important fundraiser of the year). The remaining half hour will be devoted to your first individual Den meetings where you'll have time to make introductions and talk as a Den about meeting times, etc.
Our first regularly scheduled Pack meeting will be Tuesday, September 27th at 6:30 PM in the Broadmoor Elementary Gymnasium. We will be holding our annual Rain Gutter Regatta that evening. The boys will make little boats and race them in a rain gutter!
Thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedules to look at the wonderful world of Scouting. We would be honored with your membership and participation. We'll see you Tuesday. Enjoy your day...
Kind Regards,
Craig J. Mirkovich

apples for apples
do you ever keep trying to do something...but something else keeps getting in the way...or steals your attention? i've been trying to read a book...but i either forget it at home, forget it at work, am too tired, would rather roll over and cuddle with my wife, get through a page only to realize i don't rememmber one thing i read, or like today...get so engrossed with reading something else that i don't have anymore time on my lunch break to read my book.
on my lunch break i usually eat, check my phone for ever-so-important texts and e-mails and as of late, watch Le Tour De France for the rest of the hour. today i was bound and determined to read...read a whole chapter! so as i was wrapping up my normal checkings...i decided to stop one last place...which i stop regularly...i stopped here. This is one of my favorite places to go...i learn about the important current events, who will one day shape the history of our world, what i will look back and smile about when i am 10 years older, etc...not to mention, i get to catch up on my dearly beloved sister and her life...which somedays i think about as much as my own. today, i got so caught up in reading every last word she wrote and clicking on every picture and link...i now realize my lunch break is over...i didn't even take my book out of the drawer it lives in...and now i will have to wait till tonight when i'm too tired to read, to try and read.
but it was so worth it...trading reading for reading. i actually feel like i learned as much about life and love and family and God as i would've learned reading my "spiritual" book about spirituality.
thanks Angie for always being the sister i look up to and have always learned so much about life from. and for still rocking that fly-paper handle wrap!

Downingtown Train Tracks
Sometimes I really appreciate graffiti
Most of the time I don't for the obvious reasons of disrespect
I'm not in the "know" when i comes to graffiti or its "artists"
[and I say artists loosely]
But I can't help but think this scene could be more inspiring...
Had the graffiti "artists" actually made some memorable artwork
I can only appreciate a certain amount of signature/tag practice
