soup de jour

my wife
and all females in her immediate family
have this talent
a talent i didn't know existed
a talent i feel is unappreciated
the talent: soup making
call is stew, soup, liquid food
no matter the term
if they have made it
the only conscious thought you will think
is delicious and is there more

today i took her most recent creation
to my friend Carlos at work
i could see it in his eyes
he knew before he even tasted it
that it would change his soup preferences
within the first spoon full
these words burst from his inner being
"this is one of the best soups i've ever had!"
